Marc Asmode

Marc founded Cowtown Soccer in 2008 and still runs it. He is the number on the website, the person who answers a text about a rained-off Thursday, and the man at the field on a Saturday morning.

He was born in France and graduated from Sam Houston State University.

Before the league

Soccer was not Marc's first career. From 1994 to 2014 — twenty years — he worked with Flying-Cam, the aerial filming company, as its manager of operations and field camera technology in the United States, flying camera helicopters for documentary crews and film sets. By his own count he worked on more than four hundred projects, for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel among others, and his film credits include The Beach and The Kite Runner.

It was not a job with a calendar. The one he still tells is the call that came the night before Thanksgiving:

"Is your passport good? Great — you're on a flight tomorrow at 7am."

Some of the last of it was in Asia: BMW in China, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

Marc was part of the Flying-Cam team when the company's work was honoured by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and by the Television Academy, for the camera systems it built. The awards belong to the company rather than to any one person — but he was there on the night, and it is still one of the moments he talks about.

The league

Cowtown started as a way to give Fort Worth players a league that was actually run properly — real competition, a fair table, and a good night out with your team. It marked ten years in 2018 and is now in its eighteenth season.

In August 2019 Cowtown became the first league in the United Premier Soccer League's new national 7v7 division, and that December Marc was named the UPSL's Central Conference North Division Manager. He is not with the UPSL now; Cowtown runs on its own.

What he wants the league to be

The league's stated values have not changed since the first season: enjoy the beautiful game, and play it with teamwork, mutual respect and integrity.
